REVOLUTIONS: FIVE YEARS OF COLLABORATION

JUNE 28, 2026

THE STRAND THEATRE

PROVIDENCE, RI

Revolve Dance Project celebrates its 5th Anniversary Season this June 28th at The Strand Theatre in beautiful downtown Providence. The program, titled Revolutions, will honor the company’s mission to support the future of music and dance as collaborative art forms, while paying homage to historic composer/choreographer partnerships of the past.

In its four years, RDP has become known for its live music and dance performances, weaving together an eclectic variety of music and dance styles. The 5th Anniversary Season will follow suit, spotlighting artists from within RI and beyond to create a tapestry of talent. Welsh Composer Katie Jenkins will partner with choreographer Kurt Douglas on a brand new work, tying together Jenkins’ cinematic neoclassical style with Douglas’ Limon-style modern dance background. Jim Oblon, a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has been a member of Paul Simon’s band since 2011, lends his Blues/Rock/Americana songs to a new collaboration with Ballet West Principal dancer/choreographer Emily Adams, whose contemporary flavor is filtered through the lens of ballet vocabulary as well as a tendency toward the lyrically eccentric. Accomplished composer and multi-instrumentalist Luther S. Allison will create a modern jazz piece, reflecting in the genre’s history while rooting itself in the pulse of today’s world. NYC-based freelance choreographer Danielle Diniz will create in tandem with Allison, bringing her signature fast-paced movement that finds its influences in a mixture of classical ballet, Balanchine technique, and Broadway jazz.

Since 2021, RDP has produced 32 original collaborations, commissioning composers and choreographers to create World Premiere pieces of music and dance in Rhode Island. Says Director Kirsten Evans, “It’s surreal to see something that began as an idea in my head exist so fully in the world. We value every artist who has ever participated in Revolve over the years, so the repertoire we’ve amassed is profoundly meaningful. It’s truly a mix of everything.”

In its lifespan, RDP has employed 50+ artists, bringing eight live performances to over 1000 audience members. Dedicated to contributing to Rhode Island’s cultural fabric, the company has performed in a number of unique venues throughout the state, including the Jane Pickens Theater in Newport and the Temple to Music at Roger Williams Park.

In 2024, RDP began a partnership with Metamorphosis Dance Company to host the project’s rehearsal process as well as its Educational Community Programming. Supporting a community of artists and art appreciators is central to RDP’s mission, and in its four seasons, the project has served over 150 students of all ages, levels, and abilities with low-cost arts masterclasses and complimentary tickets. RDP’s Educational Community Programming is committed to providing a fun, judgement-free environment for students, while also preparing young artists for a professional career in the arts, should they decide to pursue one.

Educational opportunities range from classical ballet, contemporary dance, Broadway jazz, Pilates, barre-style workouts, Revolve Repertory, and Artist Talks where students are able to ask questions of the artists and receive direct coaching, feedback, and advice. These classes have proven to be invaluable to the community, bringing them into the process from beginning to end- masterclasses take place in the studio where the works are being created during the day, and every student receives a free ticket to the performance, building a bridge between the performers and the audience.
